35mm Slides have a 16:9 form and so they will fit comfortably on a 4x6" paper photo.
These types of slides will not have a 16:9 form and so what we will do is crop the slides to show as much of the film as possible and then you will have some white on two sides of your print.

If you want your paper prints to be printed on a 5x7" or 8x10" prints, then you will need to indicate which slides get which size prints. If you can indicate how you want them cropped, that would be helpful, otherwise we will use our own judgement and try to get the most interesting parts of the slide into the print.

Internegatives:
You used to be able to get prints made from your slides by taking them to the "drug store" and they would ship them off to a film processor laboratory. The processor would make an "Internegative" from the original slide and then make the prints from the internegative. The Internegative is a negative made on special color film designed for making print copies from color slides. Kodak, unfortunately, stopped making its internegative films, and processing labs are dropping the service due to lack of demand. Internegative printing is on the way out, unless you can find a laboratory. that still has the film.
Prints From Digital Images:
We make scans of your slides first and then we make prints form the digital images. We had some prints made from one of our scans,
just for the sake of comparison. This was a slide of average quality and sharpness. We feel that an
enlargement of one of our scans, such as this, would yield a print
that would be satisfactory to all but those that are very hyper critical.
The quality of the original is going to
determine what your final print will look like. We make paper prints from slides of all types.
Here is the original image, reduced down in size so that you can load it in your web browser without having to wait an unbearable amount of time. You can click on the image to view a larger image but still not the full resolution size of the scan.
The original image was scanned from a 35mm slide and saved as a 6" x 4" image and 4000ppi final resolution.
We got this same image printed in various sizes in order to show you what your prints might look like.
This is an unedited, other than size, scan from a 4" x 6" Print.
You can click on the image to view a larger image but still not the full resolution size of the scan.
This is an unedited, other than size, scan from a 5" x 7" Print.
Notice that the image is cropped slightly different from the 4 x 6. This is because a 4x6 will not blow up to
You can click on the image to view a larger image but still not the full resolution size of the scan.
This is an unedited, other than size 8"x 10" Print.
Once again, the 4x6 will not blow up to fit precisely on an 8x10 print.
You can click on the image to view a larger image but still not the full resolution size of the scan.
This is an unedited, other than size, scan from a 11" x 14" Print.
In this case, a 4x6" image will exactly fit, when blown up, to a 11x14" print. We zoomed in on the print when we scanned it so that we have cropped the image slightly.
You can click on the image to view a larger image but still not the full resolution size of the scan.
We are satisfied that most people that start out with halfway decent slides are going to be satisfied with the quality that they get from prints that are 4x6 or 5x7 or 8x10 or even 11x14.

These are the minimum expected resolutions for prints.

minimum resolution for 4x6 (results will vary) |
1024 x 768 | Minimum recommended resolution for 4x6 |
1152 x 864 | Minimum recommended resolution for 5x7 |
1600 x 1200 | Minimum recommended resolution for 8x10 or larger |
5,256 X 3,544 | Old Photo's Standard Resolution |
Our standard pricing for this service will include printing the 35mm slides to 4" X 6" paper photos and will be done after we have scanned them into digital format. You will have to have us do the scanning first. You will, of course, receive the scans on a disk that is included with our regular scanning services.
You have to realize that the prints that are made from your slides are going to depend on the sharpness and quality of the slide to start with. What you see on screen, with your projector, is not exactly what you will get on your print. Shadow areas tend to fill in when going from medium to medium. No transfer is perfect but our PhotoShop® technicians do a very good job of helping the scanned image to try to get the very best print possible. Your prints from slides will never look the same as the original slides. They can't because the slides are viewed translucently with light showing "through the color films." This is a much more brilliant way to see the photos. Prints are viewed with reflected light. Your eyes see the colors by light being reflected off the printed photo. Some details and color get lost, slightly, in the process. It is a trade off. You get the prints which a lot of people can view without setting up a projector and you can also put them in photo album or in scrapbooks. Scrapbooking is a very popular hobby these days and you can't put a 35mm slide in a scrapbook. Making your prints from slides is a service and there is no way that we can guarantee your satisfaction since we do not make the prints ourselves.
Many people have only seen their 35mm slides on special occasions. Slides were a great medium for preserving your photo memories but they certainly were not very easy to view. The projector and screen had to be dragged out of the closet or the attic and then the slides had to be loaded into carousels or cartridges if they were not stored that way. Today, the slide projector is virtually an antique. Kodak doesn't even manufacture slide projectors anymore. You are faced with digitizing your 35mm slides and having the options of making prints from the slides or your slides are going to end up in the trash eventually.
