Affordable Scanning is without a doubt the most reliable scanning service I have ever known! They scan at the highest resolution of any companies that I have checked on, including the big box stores. I am so pleased with how the slides and photos turned out. They look better than they did on the slide projector! I plan to figure out a day that will work for both of us that I can come over this week and bring more photos plus those I would like restored so you can give me an estimate. I have a few questions in respect to those completed. Do I order the number of disks I want now? If so, can I order more later if others want them? I noticed in your note it mentioned text, is this something we can add to our disks after we receive them? Can the order of the pictures be changed after we receive the disks? My Mom doesn’t have anything in order. I thought it was just the slides but her photo albums are the same. It seems that it would be easier to do this once they are on a disk if that is possible. I also have letters and postcards that we would like to have scanned so all of us can share. Do you scan them too? Thank you for doing such wonderful work with our photos. Just wanted to get an overdue note off to you thanking you for all of your work in reproducing our old photos. We just got done using the SD disc to put a bunch of the photos in a photo frame for my Mom. We are going to surprise her with a great Christmas gift. We have played all of the Discs, and there does not seem to be any flaws. We had great fun watching them. Our children will love to get these as gifts at Christmas.

Before I order any copies, my husband says that I should ask if the Aspect Ratio can be changed to 16:9. Before I made a choice on this, I asked someone else who I thought should know. They didn't give me a very definitive answer. I didn't ask my husband because usually he is as much of a techno dork as I am. I guess I have learned my lesson.
If it can be changed, is it a big deal or a small deal?

I have another question. I have my third and last shipment almost ready to go. I have just one problem. As you may or may not remember, my slides are in slide cubes. The flat rate box I have previously used holds 20 cubes. I got the other size today - not as big a footprint but I can do 2 levels of cubes. My problem is that in this box I can ship 24 cubes. I have 25 cubes!!! There is some excess room in the box but no way to fit in a slide cube. I can however take them out of the cube and put them in one of those cardboard boxes or something similar where I can have 2 one inch stacks instead of 1 two inch stack. You have more experience in this than I do, what suggestions, if any, can you give me? the slides in this cube would be the last cube's. This is a batch of slides that have no dates on them and I cannot really tell what is on them. I have Corel Paint shop Pro X and Adobe PhotoShop so I can rotate and reverse and mirror and all that "stuff" so orientation is not that big of a deal with me since all I want is the DVD with just the files on it. I can perform that when I get the files back. I just hate sending in 2 shipments when I am that close to getting it in one shipment. Any help or advice you can give me would be very welcome. And oh yes, I am VERY impressed with the first shipment of 800. You have done a superb job. Thank you very much.

On picture number 19 in the online album, the picture you scanned was the side with the finger or thumb on the lens. Is it possible to scan the other side of that stereo slide. I had asked that question when before I submitted the pictures and the answer that came back was that if one side was bad you could scan the other side. Outside of that I'm very pleased with the results and will be sending you a check for the balance. Since these looked so good I will be sending others in the near future. Some of the copies were actually sharper than any photos ever made of the original slides.

I received the Demo Disk. After a little experimenting, I was able to get the Demo Disk to play in my DVD player. I also tried it on my PC and it worked fine there. I pulled off the JPEG files and viewed them. This gives the customer the best of both worlds. It allows viewing on the DVD player and access to the raw files for other uses. Some of the slides had varying degrees of clarity but upon examining the slides, they were very rippled probably due to age. I will be reviewing all my slides and deciding which slides to digitize. I'll be packaging them for shipment as soon as I can get them together. I am very satisfied with the results.

Wow that was fast! All looks great. I do have one small request if the disk has not been made yet. I do not like the text slide at the very end and would like you to take that off (the one that I asked for that says “and they lived happily ever after”). It doesn’t seem necessary. If you could do that I would appreciate it. Other than that it looks fabulous. I have never seen these pictures this clearly and I am very impressed with how they turned out.

A couple of months ago you completed scanning about 950 slides for me, which were very well done. I am now scanning a number of pictures which I am filing in folders by the year they were taken. For my slides, you made a title page (photo) for me for each group of slides that you scanned for me. I have another question. I have my third and last shipment almost ready to go. I have just one problem. As you may or may not remember, my slides are in slide cubes. The flat rate box I have previously used holds 20 cubes. I got the other size today - not as big a footprint but I can do 2 levels of cubes. My problem is that in this box I can ship 24 cubes. I have 25 cubes!!! There is some excess room in the box but no way to fit in a slide cube. I can however take them out of the cube and put them in one of those cardboard boxes or something similar where I can have 2 one inch stacks instead of 1 two inch stack. You have more experience in this than I do, what suggestions, if any, can you give me? the slides in this cube would be the last cube's. THis is a batch of slides that have no dates on them and I cannot really tell what is on them. I have Corel Paint shop Pro X and Adobe photoshop so I can rotate and reverse and mirror and all that "stuff" so orientation is not that big of a deal with me since all I want is the dvd with just the files on it. I can perform that when I get the files back. I just hate sending in 2 shipments when I am that close to getting it in one shipment. Any help or advice you can give me would be very welcome. And oh yes, I am VERY impressed with the first shipment of 800. You have done a superb job. Thank you very much.

Just got back from a few days in Whitewater taking in the Fall colors. The CD’s arrived while I was away. Just got finished reviewing them and everything is perfect. Please let me know when you are shipping the slides back so I can watch for them.

I would like your advice on a project I am thinking of undertaking. I have 2 grown children and was thinking of creating a “show” for them consisting of every slide I have on each of them from birth till say their 21st birthday. A kinda “This is your life”. I’m sure this would involve hundreds of slides of each of them. My thought is to create a folder for each of them on the PC and go thru all the slides and copy the appropriate ones into these folders. Then where do I go from there ? Your input will be appreciated.

I only checked one dvd last night to see that it functioned correctly – I’ll try the others this evening but I don’t see any problem.

Last, do you transfer 8MM camcorder tapes onto dvd? I have a dvd burner but it only works on my newer digital 8 tapes. I have close to 20 tapes from 2003 and prior that I want to preserve. Just wondering if you do that as well.

I have a couple questions. Is the VCD2 format compatible with slide show playback on a MAC? If not, can the disks, nonetheless, be put into a MAC drive to retrive the .jpg's? This past week was a bit insane, but I wanted to thank you for the great job you did on our family slide show! How do you do it?? I mean all the families must start looking alike in no time ... a bunch of lousy photographers taking thousands of photos of their kids.. Two years ago you created a wonderful CD from old slides that I gave my daughter as a gift for her 30th birthday. We were all thrilled! Now her younger brother has hit the 30 year milestone and I'd like to create a similar gift for him. Because his birthday was in January, I do not have a specific target date in mind. I'm hoping however that the end result will be complete later this spring ~ perhaps late April? early May? Is that within reason?

I have organized the slides and also have a group of paper photos. I have printed out your order form and completed it. I plan to ship to you tomorrow or Friday. Thought I should alert you first as to what I'm doing!

I have 338 slides and 27 paper photos = total 365
The slides have been properly organized per your instructions. Each "show" is banded together with elastic band. Each show is labeled to identify # of show and the "top" and "bottom" of the stack. I have painstakingly organized the slides in chronological order, in landscape position, and with the side facing the screen "up."
I have created one text page for the beginning of the presentation.
There are a total of 17 short stacks of slides and a group of 27 photos; therefore, 18 shows total.

Per your order form calculations, the total cost is $174.25. I am enclosing a $50 deposit check inside the box with the slides.

If there is anything else I should do, kindly let me know.

I received my slide show disks yesterday and couldn't wait to try them out. They are magnificent. You have brought over 1000 images from 40 years ago into the present. The quality is limited only by the skills of the photographer and the camera used. We have not viewed these images since our old slide projector died back in the late 60's. I was immersed in memories and emotions too powerful to describe. This will be the very best Christmas present I could ever give my family. Thank you for an excellent piece of work.

Recently Old Photo converted two sets of slides to disc for me. The first set was 28 years old. The second set has just been returned to me. They were photos that I made exactly fifty years ago this week at the Nevada Test Site related to a nuclear test. I intend to use them to make a PowerPoint presentation before my Rotary Club just fifty years after the first time! Old Photo did everything possible to satisfy my requirements. Service was excellent and the results superb. I will be sending more slides including some over 65 years old. It is great to do business with a company that responds promptly to email requests. Can you change the chapter 1960s so these are the first slides: 051, 033, 053, 006, 013, 014. The rest can all just stay in the same order. Let me know if there is a charge for this change.

I just finished a close run through of all 552 slides and can only say again that the quality is well above what I had expected. I had tried in the past to have portions of the slides put on tape and can only say it was not worth the effort. Putting them digital brought out clarity I did not know could be done.

Looked at one and was VERY VERY happy and excited with the result.
The quality is far beyond my expectations.
We watched it on our 48" HDTV and we were just amazed at the sharpness, the brilliant colors, and the contrast of all the pictures. I really think the pictures looked better on the TV than
they do when using a 35mm projector on to a screen.

Recently, I had the privilege of doing business with Old-Photo. I needed pictures to be scanned onto a disk so that I could provide a slide presentation for my father's retirement party. After doing some investigative work, I came across Old-Photo on the internet. I called and spoke to an individual named Ed. He took the time to answer all of my questions and the rate seemed very fair. I decided to take a chance and hire Old-Photo.

I cannot emphasize how happy I am with the job that they did. The communication was excellent and the job was well done. All of my pictures were returned ( overnight) safe and sound. Incredible. I got the disk you made for me. I was all choked up by the end - I don't think I'd seen most of those pictures before. I didn't realize there were so many - that is quite a show!!! BEAUTIFUL work. I can understand how challenging some of them must have been, with darkness and color, etc. You sure made everything look great- one wouldn't know that some started out not looking so good because you have everything looking so nice!

I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the work you obviously put into it - question: can I get some extra copies? We have a major family get-together coming up with some people coming in from New York, etc. I know that if I bring it along and can successfully set it up, my sisters and Aunts and Uncles will want one.

We are a big Irish family. We are also known to be very lucky. But even we didn't think we'd be lucky enough to get a rush job done for a big fancy last minute birthday party so we could have a DVD.

We had old slides but alas, no will to drag an old projector about etc. We read Can you do it Yourself? on Old Photo and felt such honesty, was a place we should inquire. I think there are about 157 if I counted right. They are in a few different types of plastic or paper mounts (I used to work for a slideshow production company) so I have written “top” on the top right-reading side of all the slides. Just looking for slide scanning – don’t really need a slide show.

By the way, I put together a slideshow for my sister’s 40th birthday (15 years ago!) and she sent the slides in to have you scan them – they turned out great! She had an extra disk made for me. This is really the way to go!

You did a beautiful job on our slides in 2006! Now we have a movie (taken in 1927) - on a 23.5 cm reel with 17 mm wide film with holes on one side. A label we have suggests this is a copy made in 1955.

At the risk of getting maudlin, I will just say I received the DVDs and CD ya’ll converted of my aunt and uncle’s 50-60 year old slides of their time in Germany in the 1940s and of us kids and other relatives in Alabama on their return, and it was an emotional experience. The color and clarity ya’ll were able to bring back to life, the transition from picture to picture, the music - I don’t know what I was expecting, but ya’ll went way beyond it and obviously take a lot of pride in your professional work. I sent the extra DVD copy to my sister in Alabama - she was the little blonde on the red horse.

This was something I intended to do for years. I lucked up on an internet search finding Old Photo, I called and followed the clear instructions on your site on how to arrange the slides before I shipped them (very important step), and the result is incredible. I will gladly recommend ya’ll to anyone. You may use any part of these comments as a reference if you like.

Later in the year (my grandsons are coming for the summer), I’ll review those VHS tapes like you suggested, mark them, and call before I ship them.
